Lovely dresses

Here are 2 summer dresses/tunicas that I have already made earlier.

The green one has been made from an old curtain fabric. I love that fabric, it has my colors, but its flaw is that it gets very easily crinkled. I made the green dress from Yoshiko Tsukiori's lovely dress book (see e.g.: http://www.yesasia.com/global/adults-couture-free-to-coordinate-one-pieces-and-tunic-blouses-with/1010717844-0-0-0-en/info.html), but I shortened the model quite a lot. Tsukiori's book is beautiful and full of nice ideas. In addition, all those instructions are easy to follow and also relatively fast to make (e.g. few of the dresses need any zippers). I should test one day also some other models from Tsukiori's book, but until then...

This red dress has been made of Marimekko fabric (www.marimekko.fi). Marimekko is an old and nice Finnish fabric & design house which fabrics I  fancy. The fabrics and their design clothes are full of 60's and 70's charm and have a good quality. The old, used Marimekko fabrics are the loveliest, but one has to pay sometimes crazy prices (as they do not make them anymore and Marimekko is huge in Finland)... Sometimes I make some findings from second hand shops, though. This red dress has been made from a new fabric, though. They sell some spare parts of fabrics quite cheap in Marimekko shops and I  buy quite often these small pieces for my garments/projects. The instructions for this dress I spied from a Finnish basic sewing book called "Joka Tyypin Kaavakirja" (http://wsoy.fi/yk/products/show/28193). It was a success even though I do not have an overlock sewing machine and the fabric is kind of jersey.

If you like old Marimekko fabrics, check out also old Tampella or Finlayson fabrics.
I will put some pictures here later about my findings!

Shopping yarn in London

I had a business trip to London last week. I was enthusiastic to get there as I knew Rowan yarns would be much more cheaper there than here in Finland. I bought some Kid Silk Haze -yarn, colour Smoke. On the pic below you can also see some ideas about what to do with it... Or maybe I should knit a scarf, that yarn looks good on scarves!

You can buy Rowan yarn in Helsinki example from here: http://www.fiinaneule.fi/
Check out also Rowan's webpages, one can download some great knitting instructions and ideas for free on their pages: http://www.knitrowan.com/

I love hats

Finally I got some time to make at least few pictures about my recent finished projects.

Autumn is coming and I can hide under my hats. I am crazy about 20's style caps, so I have tried to reach that atmosphere in these two.

The white one I just made without any special instructions and it has been made with crochet technique. Very simple, very fast to make. Just measured my head and made a test patch first.

The green one I have knitted along the instructions on Drops-website: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/fi/kategori_oversikt.php (in Finnish, but also in Swedish).
I made this cap last year, so unfortunately I have forgotten if I had any problems with the instructions.
